Consultant Neonatal Paediatrician

Royal Hallamshire Hospital

Alan Gibson was once a consultant neonatologist and spent the majority of his professional life on busy neonatal intensive care units.  He isn’t any more.  He retired on his 65thbirthday after one of the worst nights on duty that he can recall – probably an important factor in explaining why he has had no regrets about leaving the work he loved.  He has been asked to talk about the last 25 years in neonatology that have been covered by he REaSoN meetings presumably because the course organisers think that as he is so old he must have worked throughout that entire period – which he did.  What the course organisers have failed to take into account is that because he is that old he can’t really remember very much.
